"Determination and Focus"

Questions

I have been following your debate with the Restored Church of God [over dining out in restaurants on the Sabbath] for several weeks. It has now become clear to me that you are very determined in pursuing this issue. Although I totally agree with your position, I wonder if it is time well spent. I guess what I’m trying to say is, why do you exert so much energy on this topic? Will it really change anything?

Our Response:

This is a very good question and quite frankly it is one we have asked ourselves. Here is the answer we keep coming to.

Our purpose from the very outset of this discussion was to present God’s people with a critical message about His Sabbath and how it can be abused. A Sabbath Test carries that message with great clarity. However, we also anticipated that it would be met with considerable resistance, although we are surprised at its source. Quite frankly, we thought the Restored Church of God would actually embrace this truth. For now, that clearly isn’t the case.

Because of the dynamics of this issue (a behavior is involved), we believe God’s people must be pressed to ask some very difficult questions. Additionally they need to examine a practice that has become a significant part of Church life today. What we are trying to say is that bad habits are very hard to break. Dining out on the Sabbath is such a habit.

Finally, because we are all too aware of the consequences of this practice, we will continue to appeal to the leaders of the Church to address it. We do so because we love them very much and don’t want them to have to learn this lesson another way. So as long as we have an ounce of strength, we will continue to champion this cause. This is one issue God’s people will never be able to say they didn’t know about. Our goal is to warn. Our hope is that the message will be heard and acted upon.

Respectfully,
